My Breast My Health

S2 Ep22: Meditation, journaling, gratitude and breast cancer – Kath Elliott

Meditation, journaling and daily gratitude practice. These are the things that Kath Elliott have used to help her through her breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Kath was diagnosed with a triple-positive breast cancer in her mid-40s, just over a year ago. In this episode, we delve deep into how she coped through her treatment. Getting her friends and family to help her through her chemotherapy was one thing, having to tell her three boys about her cancer was something else.

It’s really important to find moments in that treatment experience, that can still give you some joy in life

Her cancer diagnosis has made her become more reflective of life in general. Kath has made changes to her life, including stopping drinking alcohol, the benefits of which she noticed straight away.

She has reflected on her past, become more mindful of the present, and hopeful for the future. Kath said that cancer has given perspective and depth to the relationships she has in her life which has been enriched even further.

It was an inspirational conversation that I enjoyed very much, and I hope you do too.

Strategies that helped Kath

  • Appreciating each day as it comes
  • Deriving joys in the small moments
  • Living purposefully
