In this episode, we talk about the benefit of fat in breast cancer surgery and how we can use it to improve the appearance of the breast following surgery. Yes, you read that right, we can actually use F.A.T. So, you may be wondering, how can we use this precious commodity in order to help the appearance of the breast following surgery? How can we use fat from liposuction to improve the appearance of the breast after surgery?
Well, today’s guest will enlighten us all. Dr Jacqueline Lewis is an oncoplastic breast surgeon, just like me. But unlike me, her background is in plastic surgery (mine is in general surgery). She then undertook more training in oncology surgery and so now, she has the expertise to operate on those with breast cancer, whilst at the same time ensuring best aesthetic outcomes.
This podcast episode was really fun to record as I have known Jackie for some time now. We talked about all things fat related.
Topics covered include:
- How we use fat?
- Where are the best places we should take (harvest) it from?
- In what setting can you use fat transfer / lipomodelling?
- Who would benefit from this technique?
- What are the controversies surrounding fat transfer?
Towards the end of the episode, Jackie also shares her secrets of how best to improve the quality of your skin that would benefit not only your breasts, but the rest of your body.
